Chris McCarthy is a Partner at White & McCarthy, LLP, and has been practicing in the field of Elder Law since 1999. Chris focuses his practice in the following areas: Estate Planning; Estate and Trust Administration; Disability and Special Needs Planning, including the creation of Special Needs Trusts; Medicaid Planning and Long-Term Care Planning; Guardianships and Conservatorships for incapacitated adults; Estate Litigation; and Fiduciary Litigation. Chris received his B.A. in Government from Georgetown University in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law in 1999. Prior to law school, he served as an Armor officer in the United States Army, with active duty assignments in Germany and Washington. Chris is the first attorney in Central Virginia to become a Certified Elder Law Attorney, being certified through the National Elder Law Foundation, the only organization accredited by the American Bar Association to offer certification in the area of elder law (there is no procedure in Virginia for approving certifying organizations). He is a Past Chairman of the Elder Law Section of the Virginia Bar Association, Vice President of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners, and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Virginia Center on Aging. Mr. McCarthy is a frequent continuing legal education lecturer, and also speaks frequently to nonprofit groups and organizations, health care professionals and the general public on estate planning, nursing home residents rights, Medicaid planning, special needs planning, and the legal concerns of the elderly and disabled.
